Buying a new home can get expensive. Not with just the price of paying for a new house, but all of the other expenses that come along with moving. The first thing you want to do is decorate you. home when you move in. Decorating your home can get expensive if you don’t know where to look.
I’ve come up with a few ways to decorate your home on a budget so you don’t feel overwhelmed with price tags and decorations.
Buy a Little at a Time
Nobody said you have to decorate your home completely right after you move in. Your new home may feel a little empty for a few months, especially if you have upgraded to a bigger space. Remember to take your time with shopping for decorations and furniture. You don’t have to buy everything at once.
Shop around and wait for end of season sales to buy a piece of furniture you’ve had your eye on. Pick up little knick-knacks and small pieces as you see them. I’ve found that the best decorations show up when you aren’t searching for them.
Know Where to Shop
You don’t have to buy furniture from overpriced furniture stores to decorate your home. There are many discount stores out there that have great quality furniture and decorations. Many of them are online, which takes the stress out of furniture shopping!
Amazon.com – Amazon has everything! If you have a Prime membership, then you’ll have your new decorations in two days with free shipping.
Overstock.com – Overstock is a great website to buy discount furniture. They usually have a coupon you can use if you sign up for their emails too.
Ikea – Everyone loves getting lost in Ikea. You can shop their online store, but what fun is that when you can eat Swedish meatballs while looking at furniture?
Etsy.com – Support small businesses and buy handcrafted decorations on Etsy. You’ll find some pretty unique items to decorate your home with.
HomeGoods – Whether you are looking for furniture, dishware, kitchen gadgets, or small unique items to decorate your home, HomeGoods is the place to go!
Christmas Tree Shops – The Christmas Tree Shops make decorating your home on a budget possible. They have everything from decorative furniture to paintings to lamps to dishware. It’s a great spot if you love to decorate your home for the holidays too!
Add Some Greenery
It’s surprising how a simple plant can pull together a room. With so many different plants out there, you can choose from simple greenery to blossoming flowers. Now, you can find exciting places to put them too. Hang them from a glass terrarium or use a stepladder to stack small potted plants. Don’t be afraid to get creative!
DIY
Get down and dirty with some do it yourself projects to decorate your home. While you’ll need to spend a little more time and effort into decorating, it’ll all be worth it, especially when it comes to your wallet. Scroll through Pinterest and watch YouTube tutorials to get some inspiration to decorate your home.
Use What You Have
It’s enlightening to look at a piece of furniture you’ve had for years in a different way. Repurposing what you already have or customizing it can change the piece entirely. For example, couches can get pretty pricey. If you already have a couch that is in good shape, buy a couch cover. By changing the design or color, you’ll feel like you have a brand new couch!
Display collectibles such as your china dish set, glass vases, or wine glasses on shelves or a bookcase. Get creative with where you put old furniture and how you display it. It can make a world of difference!
Decorate Your Home on a Budget
Now that you’ve moved into your new home, it’s time to start decorating your home on a budget! Remember to take your time decorating and wait for the right pieces to pop up. Look for discount websites and stores for décor and furniture. Don’t be afraid to put some elbow grease into DIY projects and customizing furniture you already have. Lastly, add a plant or two to decorate your home.
