“Living in Philly” interview series where realtor Cherise Wynne (“Agent Lady”) highlights interesting people & organizations in the civic, real estate, restaurant and lifestyle space that help first time home buyers navigate our great city of Philadelphia.
Meet Julie Hancher, Co-Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Green Philly blog
Agent Lady: In regards to Green Philly, when people ask that famous question “what do you do”, how do you typically answer?
Julie: Green Philly helps people live a more sustainable lifestyle. We share online content about sustainability, host events like panels and the annual sustainability awards, SustainPHL approaching on August 3rd.
Agent Lady: What does Green Philly do, what neighborhood(s) does it provide products/services in, and what do you find special about those Philly areas?
Julie: We address issues across Philadelphia but help empower readers to take action in their everyday lives or on their block. Recycling rules are tricky so we have our Where Can I Wednesday column to help calrify what can (and can’t) go into the recycling bin. All of Philadelphia is special in its own way! We especially love “getting away” to hiking the Wissahickon or biking on West River Drive on the weekends.
Agent Lady: How do you believe Green Philly is making Philadelphia better?
Agent Lady: If you had to choose between a Philly cheesesteak or a Philly pretzel, what would you choose?
Julie: Blackbird’s vegan seitan cheesesteak.
Agent Lady: What’s the biggest misconception people have about your industry or type of organization?
Julie: That sustainability is “hard” or expensive. Sustainability is all about reducing your impact, is easy and can save money.
Agent Lady: What is the nerdiest thing you do in your spare time?
Julie: Listen to podcasts like the Energy Gang and debate our current read with my awesome book club.
Agent Lady: What is your favorite word?
Julie: Irregardless.
Agent Lady: If you had to pick another career what would it be?
Julie: I wouldn’t – I’m creating my own destiny and supporting sustainability while building a business.
Agent Lady: For anyone looking to buy their first home in Philly or move to the Philly area, what do you have to say to them?
Julie: It’s a great decision! From the restaurants, events and people, Philadelphia has so much going on!
Agent Lady: If someone wanted to learn more about you or Green Philly, where could they go?
