As the weather gets warmer, spring cleaning season begins. After a long cold winter, it’s finally time to open up those windows and let some fresh air into the house. There’s nothing like breathing in fresh air while dusting or vacuuming your home for spring cleaning.
Deep cleaning an entire house can be pretty overwhelming. Here is your guide to a smooth and successful spring cleaning so you feel refreshed and ready to welcome warm weather.
What Is Spring Cleaning?
Spring cleaning typically happens once a year. As the weather gets warmer, people are inclined to do a deep cleaning of their house. This means cleaning places you normally look past. It’s a way to give your home a fresh start during a new season. Depending on the size of your home, spring cleaning can last a day or a long weekend.
Take It Room-by-Room
You’re probably dreading spring cleaning when you walk through your house. How are you supposed to deep clean everything part of your house without going crazy? The answer is to take it room by room. While it may be tempting to clean every floor in your house and then dust every surface in your house, it can lead to distraction and dragging out your spring cleaning. When you clean your home room by room, it feels more manageable.
Clear the Clutter
Before you begin deep cleaning a room, go through all of the clutter and belongings that are sitting out. Put them away where they belong to clear space for when you start dusting and vacuuming. If you notice that you have too much clutter, consider donating or throwing away items you don’t particularly love anymore. Take notes from the new wave minimalism if you need help getting rid of clutter.
Dust Every Surface
Now that you’ve removed clutter and put things back where they belong, it’s time to dust every single surface in the room. This means window sills, tables, shelves, lampshades, ceiling fans, light bulbs, and little trinkets that are left out. The springtime pollen already affects people’s allergies; don’t let the dust in your house make the symptoms worse.
Wipe Down Surfaces
Now it’s time to really start the deep cleaning. Get out those paper towels or old rags and start wiping down every surface you can think of. Wipe off those scratches and dust build up on the walls and floorboards. Spray some Lysol on those doorknobs everyone touches so often. Bring out the Windex and wipe the inside and outside of your windows so the springtime sun can brighten your room. You’ll be shocked at how much grime and dust you pick up from these surfaces.
Sweep or Vacuum
After cleaning the room’s surfaces, it’s time to focus on cleaning the floors. If you have carpets or rugs, now is a great time to spend some extra money for a professional rug cleaner. This will lift up stains and make them look like new.
Clean Out Appliances
As mentioned before, spring cleaning means cleaning out places you may never think to clean. This includes your appliances like your dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave, washer and dryer. Clean out any food from the bottom of your dishwasher to ensure your plates are fully cleaned. Wipe up those spills in the back of your fridge and microwave. Make sure all of the lint and dust is out of your washer and dryer so you only have the freshest clean clothes after a laundry cycle.
Closet Clean Out
As you switch out your winter clothes for your spring clothes, take a little time to go through your wardrobe and pull out clothes and shoes that you will probably never wear again. If something is out of style, still has the tags on it, or doesn’t fit right anymore, donate them to your local charity or thrift store. Not only will you help someone in need, but also you’ll free up more space in your closet and drawers during your spring cleaning.
Start Spring Cleaning Today
It’s never too early to start your spring cleaning. It’s always a good idea to give your home a good deep cleaning at least once a year. This will get rid of any dust that affects your allergies, keep your home clean, and reduce the clutter you build up over the year.
